THE SIDELINES : Broncos’ Smith Out for Season

DENVER — The Denver Broncos today placed offensive lineman Monte Smith, who accidentally shot himself in the foot while cleaning a gun last Tuesday, on the “non-football injury” reserve list.
Smith, a second-year player, will be sidelined for the season. He underwent surgery to repair a fractured navicular bone in his right foot.
He was considered one of the most valuable backups on the team.
