World IN BRIEF : PAKISTAN : Bhutto Announces She Will Seek Office

Ousted Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto announced in Karachi that she will run in elections in October despite threats by caretaker rulers to have her disqualified. A spokesman for her Pakistan People’s Party said Bhutto would run for three national assembly seats in her home province of Sind. Under Pakistani law, a candidate can seek more than one seat at a time but can keep only one afterwards. Special courts that can disqualify politicians from taking part in elections have already put some former government ministers on trial.
