The Fred Finch Youth Center, a center for the treatment of emotionally disturbed adolescents, will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 1991. First Lady Barbara Bush has agreed to be the honorary chairwoman of the centennial committee.
The center is conducting a nationwide search for former residents, who are asked to contact the Centennial Alumni Committee, Fred Finch Youth Center, 3800 Coolidge Ave., Oakland, Calif. 94602, or Helen Greenwalt at (415) 933-2401.
The center began as an orphanage in 1891 housing such notables as writer William Saroyan. After 100 years, it is still serving children but has shifted its focus to the treatment of emotionally disturbed adolescents.
