A bomb threat written on a restroom mirror forced a Dallas-bound Delta Airlines jet to return to Los Angeles early Tuesday, but a search found no explosives, authorities said. Los Angeles police said someone was detained for questioning and then released, but gave no other details.
Delta Flight 996, a Boeing 727 bound for Dallas-Fort Worth with 87 passengers and seven crew members, took off from Los Angeles International Airport at 12:30 a.m., a Delta official said.
After the threat was discovered, the pilot turned around, landing in Los Angeles at 1:24 a.m. Passengers were evacuated from the plane without incident, Federal Aviation Administration duty agent Jerry Acosta said.
