East Germany and West Germany competed separately for the last time in track and field, combining to win most of the medals in the 15-nation Permit Meet at New Delhi.
East Germany’s Petra Felke, who won the gold medal in the women’s javelin, led teammates in a “unification run” of the stadium, with the West German athletes joining at the midway point.
They were given a standing ovation by a crowd of about 30,000.
