Police are warning people in Hillcrest and North Park to be on the lookout for a robber who preys on women working alone in businesses and in some cases has sexually assaulted them.
Police describe the man as black, between 25 and 30 years old, about 6-feet tall and weighing between 180 and 200 pounds. He has a thin-to-muscular build with wavy black hair that looks like it has been chemically straightened, said police spokesman Bill Robinson.
Police believe the man may have attempted to rob a woman shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday at a business in the 3000 block of 2nd Avenue.
The man, who usually carries a gun and a hunting knife, has sexually assaulted four women in the seven businesses he has robbed, Robinson said.
During the robberies, the man usually wears dark clothing and has his face covered.
Anyone with information is asked to call the San Diego police at 531-2000.
