ANAHEIM : Traffic, Crime Top Concerns in Survey

A new survey of Anaheim residents reveals that they are most concerned about two issues: traffic and crime.
The survey, which was conducted last spring, included more than 1,000 residents. Similar surveys were conducted in 1988 and 1986.
Results of the survey indicate that residents were almost evenly divided when asked if they were satisfied with living in Anaheim.
Fifty-eight percent of the respondents said they were more pleased with Anaheim since they moved here, and 42% said they were less pleased.
Neighborhood and environment were cited as the main reasons for the content or discontent of the respondents, and those who were displeased with their area also cited congestion, traffic and crime.
Concern about crime took a significant jump in this year’s survey. In 1988, 7% cited crime as their biggest worry. This year that figure rose to 22%.
Traffic and related ills such as street repair and congestion remained the top concerns of respondents throughout the city. Thirty-six percent of the people surveyed said traffic was their main concern. The issue has been the top concern of residents since the survey was first conducted in 1986.
