PARIS — Conchita Martinez of Spain won the Paris women’s open Sunday, defeating Patricia Tarabini of Argentina, 7-5, 6-3.
“It was a very hard final for me because Tarabini has a way to play which is very different from other players,” Martinez said.
The 18-year-old Spaniard, who reached the French Open quarterfinals in 1988 and the finals of the European Open in 1989, has been less successful recently.
“My victory today brought me back confidence in myself and it feels really great to win,” said the tournament’s top-seeded player.
