Jockey Cleared of Fixing N.Y. Race Returns to Riding

FARMINGTON, N.Y. — Joseph Badamo, the jockey accused of conspiring to fix a race at the Finger Lakes Race Track last year, will return to riding Saturday.

Badamo is scheduled to ride Dibi-Dibi in the sixth race at the track outside Canandaigua, for his first mount since his license was reinstated this summer.

Federal prosecutors had accused Badamo of conspiring to rig the outcome of a 1989 race by holding back his horse, Shine Please. Three other people were also charged in the alleged scheme, which was uncovered during an investigation in which the FBI secretly bought a horse and ran it at the track.

Charges against the four were dropped by a federal judge in Rochester in July.
