PARIS — An unemployed house painter surrendered Sunday after a 24-hour siege during which he shot and wounded five policemen and threatened to kill himself and his family.
Patrick Moesta, 33, entered the apartment of his estranged wife in suburban Paris at midday Saturday. Neighbors called police when they heard an argument. Moesta began firing, wounding five officers and a neighbor. An elite police unit sealed off the apartment building. Moesta finally surrendered after talking with a prosecutor.
His wife, 10-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son were not hurt.
