SHORT TAKES : Pianist Plans Big Party for Mom

FT. WORTH — Pianist Van Cliburn will celebrate his mother’s birthday in style--by underwriting the Oct. 12 and 13 performances of the Fort Worth Ballet.
Cliburn, known for doing things in a big way, also will invite everybody in the audience at the Ft. Worth-Tarrant County Convention Center Theatre on Oct. 12 to have a slice of his mother’s birthday cake. Rildia Bee Cliburn will be 94 on Oct. 14.
The mother and son are featured in the October issue of Vogue. He is scheduled to perform Oct. 27 with the Leningrad Philharmonic at the Tilles Center in Brookville, N.Y.
