Alphonso Walker, a light heavyweight once ranked No. 10 by the World Boxing Organization and the United States Boxing Assn., died in an accident at the Port of Jacksonville, Fla.
Walker, 26, who worked as a longshoreman, was fatally crushed between two semi-trailers while a container ship was being loaded.
Walker last fought June 29, losing a 12-round decision to Jesse Williams of Orlando in a state title fight at Ft. Myers. A two-time national Golden Gloves champion, Walker had a 16-2 record as a pro.
