NATCHITOCHES, La. — The NCAA put Northwestern Louisiana on probation for three years today and banned the men’s basketball team from postseason play for two years as punishment for about 40 violations, the school announced.
Included in the list of violations were giving illegal recruiting inducements to prospects and extra benefits to athletes already enrolled.
All of the violations took place when Don Beasley was head basketball coach. Beasley was fired on July 27, 1988.
Also today, the NCAA issued orders for Beasley to show why he should not be forbidden to coach at NCAA institutions for the next 15 years.
