Seeded Players Take Court Today in Tennis Event

Pepperdine, UCLA and USC combined to send seven players to the second round of play in the inaugural West Coast Fall Men’s Championships, a tennis tournament at Warner Center Club in Woodland Hills.

Twelve seeded players, led by No. 1-ranked Bill Behrens of UCLA, were granted first-round byes and open play today. Behrens plays Paul Tracy of UC Irvine, who defeated Jason Colter of Azusa Pacific by default.

Third-seeded David Ekcrote of USC also begins play today, meeting Cal State Bakersfield’s Kurt Kopp, who won by default over Alex Ray of Pepperdine. In another match, fourth-seeded Andros Lanyi of USC will play UC Irvine’s Rodger Vig, a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Oscar Tarre-Miro of Bakersfield. Play begins at 10 a.m. The final will be played Sunday at noon.
