Running back Chris Myrick led Wilson High School over Hollywood, 35-0, Friday night at Wilson in a matchup of undefeated, revived City football programs.
Myrick rushed for 142 yards in 15 carries, made three interceptions and scored three touchdowns in the game before a crowd of 3,000.
Wilson was also led by Luis Acosta on defense and offense. From his tight end position, Acosta caught eight passes for 101 yards.
Wilson (4-0) ended a three-game winning streak for Hollywood, which had entered this season with a 27-game losing streak.
Wilson, which has not won a City championship since it won four consecutive titles in 1975-78, punted only once and held Hollywood to three first downs in the first half as the Mules opened a 22-0 lead.
After Hollywood did not capitalize on Wilson’s three first-quarter fumbles, Wilson scored its first touchdown when Sergio Estrada picked up Hollywood’s dropped lateral pass and returned it 72 yards.
Wilson made it 14-0 early in the second quarter with a nine-play, 67-yard drive that was capped by Myrick’s six-yard touchdown run.
Myrick scored again late in the second quarter with an eight-yard run, set up by a 38-yard pass from Fernando Leyva to George Pantages.
In the fourth quarter, Myrick scored again, when he returned his third interception game 65 yards for a touchdown.
With 4:49 left in the game, Wilson completed the scoring with a 28-yard pass play from reserve quarterback Zanonie Morales to Eddie Marez.
Leyva completed 10 of 21 passes for 159 yards.
