A YOUNG MILLIONAIRE
I almost gagged on “Portrait of the Artist as a Young Millionaire.” This is the future of filmmaking? Half-baked macho drivel? Does this guy, Shane, seriously think he has anything to say that can’t be found in a comic strip? Please spare us the allusions to deep and thoughtful literary processes. Appealing to the lowest common denominator takes the kind of intelligence you find in a 28-year-old who hasn’t discovered girls yet, still lives with a bunch of roommates and thinks apartheid isn’t reality.
To appeal to the lowest common denominator, you have to seek the lowest common denominator, but where do they find these brain-stunted creatures?
