Mater Dei’s Fowler Undergoes Surgery, May Sit Out Season

Senior linebacker Shawn Fowler of Mater Dei High School will likely miss the rest of the football season after injuring his knee Saturday with 35 seconds left in the Monarchs’ 42-23 loss to Mission Viejo.
Fowler had surgery Sunday afternoon to repair a tear of a left tendon at Children’s Hospital of Orange. He was injured when another player rolled into his knee at the end of a running play.
“Basically he just blew out his knee,” said family friend Tom Schultz, who drove Fowler and his parents to the hospital after the game.
