Camarillo Guard Harbour Says He Has Accepted Stanford Offer

Camarillo High senior David Harbour said Tuesday that he has orally committed to play basketball at Stanford next fall and will sign a letter of intent Nov. 14, the first day of the early signing period.
Harbour, a 6-foot-3 guard, averaged 27.7 points and set a school record with 669 points last season. Harbour, who said he also received scholarship offers from Pepperdine, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego and Fresno State, decided on Stanford after a visiting there last month.
“It’s hard not to go to a school like Stanford,” he said. “It’s everything I want in a school. It has great academics, an up-and-coming basketball program, and I got along real well with their players.”
NCAA rules prohibit schools from commenting on player commitments until a letter of intent has been signed and received. Yet there is little doubt that Stanford was impressed with the long-range shooting touch of Harbour, a left-hander, as well as his 1,180 score on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.
Harbour, who will turn 18 in January, said that he is relieved to put an end to the nonstop phone calls that accompany the recruiting process.
“It takes a lot of your time,” he said. “I have that burden off my back. Now I can just enjoy my senior season and help the team do well and not worry about finding a school.”
Harbour said that Stanford was his early favorite. He attended Stanford’s High Potential Camp in June.
“From what they’ve told me, I don’t think they’ll redshirt me,” he said. “They’ve indicated they need me to play right away.”
Harbour said he plans to study industrial engineering and eventually earn a master’s degree in business administration.
