A Thousand Oaks man killed on Santa Rosa Road on Tuesday night had been driving on the wrong side of the road when his car ran head-on into another vehicle, whose driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, officials said.
Rigo Berto Cancino, 44, died Tuesday of multiple injuries, Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said.
James Ivie, 36, of Camarillo said he did not see Cancino’s car traveling east in the westbound lane because of glare from the setting sun, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Ivie was arrested and released on his own recognizance. He had been arrested on the same charge at the end of September with at least one other prior conviction, said Sgt. Ken Warren of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
Officials did not charge Ivie with manslaughter because the accident did not appear to be his fault, CHP Officer Jim Utter said.
The accident, which occurred about 6:50 p.m. between Penelope Place and Las Posas Road near Thousand Oaks, held up traffic for about two hours, officials said.
