ROUNDUP : Curse Hangs Over Moorpark Soccer Streak
- Share via
A men’s soccer match Friday afternoon that was terminated two minutes before the end of regulation play might terminate Moorpark College’s team’s winning streak as well.
Visiting Moorpark, which has won its first 10 matches this season, was leading Hancock, 2-1, in the Western State Conference match when the referee ended it after a verbal dispute with Moorpark Coach Frank Parodi.
“The referee stopped play because he was going to throw me out,” Parodi said. “At this moment, we don’t know whether the results are going to hold or not. We should know Monday morning. . . . We’ve got to find out whether a forfeit has been declared.”
Parodi said that he had grown frustrated over the officiating, and “(the referee) claims I called him a vulgar name and that’s when he stopped the game.”
If the match stands as a Moorpark victory, the Raiders will improve to 11-0, 6-0 in conference play.
Shaun Christensen scored a goal and assisted Jeff Spach on Moorpark’s other goal. Should the match be forfeited to Hancock, 1-0, the goals would not count.
