Greg Windle Guides Troy Past Sonora

FULLERTON — Senior quarterback Greg Windle passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more to lead Troy High School to a 28-7 victory over Sonora in the Freeway League opener for both teams Friday night at Fullerton District Stadium.
Windle started the scoring with a 37-yard pass to Chad Hartford with 4:50 left in the first quarter. He then scored on a one-yard run on the second quarter. The touchdown was set up by a fumble recovery by Kory Silvestri at the Sonora 43.
He also completed a 30-yard scoring pass to Steve Friedrich with 5:53 left in the first half.
Hartford’s extra point gave Troy (3-3, 1-0) a 21-0 lead that it took into halftime.
Windle capped the scoring with another one-yard run on the first play of the final quarter. He completed 15 of 17 passes for 243 yards with no interceptions. Friedrich had six catches for 111 yards, and has 31 catches for 435 yards in six games this season.
Quarterback Todd Fletcher scored Sonora’s only touchdown with 4:21 left in the third quarter on a one-yard run that completed a 61-yard, 15-play drive. All 61 yards came on the ground.
Deron Drake, a junior running back, ran for 124 yards in 26 carries for Sonora (1-5, 0-1), which had only 180 yards in total offense.
