‘Chess’ Stars Go to Washington: Two of the stars of the Long Beach Civic Light Opera’s “Chess” will perform at the Kennedy Center tonight during the Victory Awards gala, an event chaired by President and Mrs. Bush. Jodie Benson and Robert Yacko were invited by Victory Awards producer Susan Lewis after last Saturday night’s premiere of “Chess.” Both will sing selections from the score of the musical. The awards are sponsored by Washington’s National Rehabilitation Hospital and salute “outstanding individuals who have triumphed over significant adversity.” This year’s recipients include Patty Duke and Ben Vereen.
