Los Angeles police were searching Sunday for a man suspected in two shootings that left one person dead and another injured Saturday night in Panorama City.
Aurelio Maldonado, 26, of Van Nuys died after he was shot several times outside an apartment complex in the 8800 block of Willis Avenue about 8 p.m., Sgt. Harry Mauk said.
About 10 minutes earlier, Mauk said, the man who shot Maldonado fired a handgun at a 17-year-old youth outside a liquor store in the 14700 block of Parthenia Street, a few blocks away. The youth, whose name was not released because of his age, was treated at a local hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg and released.
Police had no description of the attacker but said they believe it was the same man in both cases. They also did not have a motive for either attack, but both were being investigated by gang detectives.
