Fountain Valley Just Can’t Win

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Dominguez High School handed Fountain Valley its seventh consecutive loss, 44-30, Friday in a nonleague game.
Fountain Valley (0-7), playing before a homecoming crowd of 3,000, led, 20-16, at halftime, but 28 second-half points by Dominguez (5-2) put the game away.
Dominguez scored first on a 13-yard run by James Jackson.
With seconds left in the quarter, Fountain Valley’s Mike Pecen intercepted a pass at the Dominguez 35 and ran it back for a tying touchdown. Fountain Valley’s Brian Williams scored the game’s next touchdown on a 41-yard run.
Dominguez halfback Lavelle Townsend took the ensuing kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown, but the point-after attempt failed. Dominguez took a 16-14 lead on a field goal, but with 3:29 left in the half, Fountain Valley’s Marcos Diaz caught a 19-yard pass for a touchdown and a 20-16 halftime lead.
