2 Youths Shot Dead on I-805

Two Southeast Asian teen-agers were shot to death on Interstate 805 late Friday night by assailants in another car who drove by the youths’ auto and riddled it with bullets, San Diego police reported Saturday.
Police homicide detectives are investigating the shooting, which occurred in the northbound lanes of I-805 south of Mesa College Drive about 11:30 p.m. According to witnesses, another car drove by with its lights off and a volley of shots were fired at the youths’ auto.
One youth who died at the scene was identified by the county Medical Examiner’s Office as Sang Thin Hoang, 18. A second youth, 17-year-old Huy Pham Thank Tran, died in the Sharp Memorial Hospital emergency room a short time later. A third youth in the car was treated for a minor wound and released from Sharp.
The homicide investigation closed down several northbound lanes of the freeway for several hours.
