Garden Grove Man Crushed

SOUTH GATE — A 40-year-old Garden Grove man was killed Monday when the hydraulic unit of a forklift fell and crushed him, police said.
Robert Bleigh Merrell was working at Mann Aircraft Forming Co., located on Firestone Place, when the accident occurred about 1:30 p.m., said South Gate Police Lt. Russell Beecher.
Merrell was looking underneath the forklift to see why it was not working when the lift mechanism fell on top of him, Beecher said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
