IRVINE : A Chance to Take Fitness to Heart
- Share via
The fit and the flabby can help their hearts as well as the hearts of others Saturday morning by participating in the American Heart Assn.’s Heart and Sole Classic.
Five- and 10-kilometer courses will be available to walkers or runners, and a 25-kilometer course will be laid out for bicyclists. Participants are asked to find friends, co-workers or neighbors to donate money for each kilometer they complete on the course. Late registrations will be accepted Saturday morning.
The top money-raisers will win trips and other prizes. The grand prize is a week’s vacation in London.
Money raised for the annual event will benefit the association’s Orange County chapter and will be used for research and community education programs. Last year’s participants raised $230,000.
The event is geared more toward fun than competition, and anyone who can walk 5 kilometers--just more than 3 miles--is welcome. The event begins at 6:30 a.m. at Jamboree Center on Jamboree Road just north of the San Diego Freeway.
A total of 192 Orange County companies are helping to sponsor the event. Some have offered to pay the $25 requested registration donation for their employees, which entitles participants to a Heart and Sole T-shirt. Free refreshments, entertainment and prizes will be available.
Call (714) 856-3555 for information.
Heart And Sole Classic All of Maine St. closed between Jamboree and Harvard 6:30 a.m. to after 9:30 a.m.
