HUNTINGTON BEACH — After falling behind early, Santa Ana came back to deny Fountain Valley its first victory of the season Friday night, defeating the Barons, 36-21, in a Sunset League game at Huntington Beach High School.
Fountain Valley (0-8, 0-4 in league) led, 14-7, at halftime and increased the margin to 21-7 early in the third quarter. But Santa Ana, which got its first victory last week with a 22-21 upset of Huntington Beach, started its comeback with 3 minutes 25 seconds left in the third quarter when quarterback Marc Contreras, who completed four of eight passes for 199 yards, hit receiver Terry Anuu for a 95-yard touchdown. Anuu had caught a 47-yard scoring pass in the second quarter.
Santa Ana (2-6, 2-3) added points in the fourth quarter as fullback Kevin Pola ran four and 20 yards for touchdowns, and Contreras ran in from the one with 2:42 left.
Fountain Valley quarterback Ryan Bertoni completed seven of 23 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown.
