American Regains No. 1 Spot: American Airlines has soared past archrival United Airlines to become the nation’s largest airline, the latest traffic figures show. American, based at Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport, posted more revenue-passenger miles--a critical industry yardstick--than Chicago-based United during the first 10 months of 1990. American had reigned as No. 1 until it was overtaken by United almost a year ago.
