AMES, Iowa — Jeff Shudak kicked a school-record five field goals, including a 36-yarder with 14 seconds left that gave Iowa State a 27-25 Big Eight victory over Missouri Saturday.
Shudak kicked the winner after Missouri (3-7, 1-5) had taken a 25-24 lead on freshman Phil Johnson’s 65-yard touchdown pass play to Skip Leach with 1:38 remaining. It was Johnson’s third touchdown pass of the day, but his two-point conversion pass fell incomplete, giving Iowa State (4-5-1, 2-3-1) a chance to win.
