Yankees, Possibly to Fill Void, Sign Farr

In a move thought to be insurance against losing Dave Righetti, the New York Yankees agreed Monday to a $6.3-million, three-year contract with free-agent relief pitcher Steve Farr.
Farr, a right-hander who will be 34 next year, was 13-7 last season for the Kansas City Royals with a 1.98 earned-run average. He pitched 51 games in relief and started six.
Righetti became a free agent and is threatening to leave unless he gets a five-year contract.
Farr, who made $775,000 in 1990, will get a $1.2-million signing bonus, $2 million next season, $2 million in 1992 and $1.1 million in 1993.
