La Habra Heights City Manager Robert G. Gutierrez will resign his position to become city manager of La Puente starting Jan. 1.
Gutierrez, 36, has been city manager of La Habra Heights since 1982. He will replace La Puente City Manager Frank Ruiz, who announced his retirement earlier this year.
A resident of La Verne, Gutierrez will be paid $79,200 in his new position, which includes the duties of city clerk. Gutierrez is earning $72,500 with La Habra Heights.
Assistant City Manager Noelia Chapa will serve as acting city manager of La Habra Heights until the City Council fills the position, probably by February, Gutierrez said. The post is likely to be advertised statewide, he said.
