4 Earn Trophies in Speech Competition

Four El Monte-area ninth-graders earned trophies in the Friendly El Monte Democratic Club Speech Contest.
They are: Tam Doan from Rosemead High School, first place; Katherine Lui, also from Rosemead, second place; Elva Leon from Mountain View High School, third place, and Angel Castellanos from Arroyo High School with an honorable mention.
The competition was open to all freshmen in the El Monte Union High School District and was held at El Monte City Hall on Nov. 21.
The topic of this year’s competition was: “Environmental protection: Promoting the general welfare or limiting individual rights?”
