Following is a list of the six most severe air pollution penalties assessed by the South Coast Air Quality Management District in September. Company: Southwest Aerospace Corp. 1919 S. Susan St. Santa Ana
Penalty: $60,000
Violation: Violation of permit conditions by using a photochemically reactive solvent in a paint spray booth on various dates from May through August, 1989 (aerospace company).
Company: Barcel Wire and Cable Corp. 2851 Alton Ave. Irvine
Penalty: $7,500
Violation: Failure to obtain a permit on two wire coaters and exceeding paint usage limits on six wire coaters in May, 1988 (wire coating facility).
Company: Chevron U.S.A. Inc. Production Dept. 20031 Golden West St. Huntington Beach
Penalty: $7,500
Violation: Causing a public nuisance by releasing mercaptans into the atmosphere in April, 1990 (crude oil production facility).
Company: Kirkhill Rubber Co. 300 E. Cypress St. Brea
Penalty: $5,000
Violation: Failure to vent a rubber curing system through an air pollution control system and failure to properly maintain emissions control equipment in June, 1988 (manufactures custom-made rubber products).
Company: Valley Detroit Diesel Allison 13644 E. Nelson Ave. Industry
Penalty: $1,600
Violation: Failure to obtain a permit to construct an internal combustion engine at various locations in Buena Park during April, 1990 (retailers of diesel engine systems).
Company: Griffin Electronics 2115 S. Hathaway St. Santa Ana
Penalty: $1,400
Violation: Failure to obtain a permit to operate plating lines in July, 1990 (service printed circuit boards).
