Intel Develops Faster Chip: The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company has developed a speedier version of its flagship microprocessor chip, according to an Intel research paper. The new chip is about half the size of Intel’s top-end 80486 chip, which is used in powerful personal computers and mid-range machines, but it is up to three times faster, according to news reports. However, the chip may operate too quickly for the way most computers are currently designed, analysts and competitors say. They add that Intel’s factories may not be able to produce the chip in volume for at least three years.
