TORONTO — British Aerospace PLC is considering a rival bid for Boeing Co.’s De Havilland division, currently the subject of sales talks, it was reported today.
According to the Financial Post, British Aerospace wants to acquire De Havilland for its technology and later sell the facility to a French and Italian consortium, Avions de Transport Regional. Boeing signed a letter of intent in July to sell De Havilland directly to the French and Italian companies who are partners in the consortium, Aerospatiale SA and Aeritalia SpA. Talks between the parties are ongoing, but no deal has yet been announced.
Union officials said British Aerospace is interested in studying De Havilland’s short takeoff and landing technology and in incorporating it into its own commuter aircraft.
