Hall of Famers: The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences will include blues, jazz, big band music and Broadway compositions among this year’s Hall of Fame inductees. The list includes: “Call It Stormy Monday,” a blues piece recorded in 1947 by T-Bone Walker; “Misty,” recorded by pianist Erroll Garner in 1954; “Moonlight Serenade,” bandleader Glenn Miller’s theme song; “Show Boat,” the first album of show music in the United States, recorded in 1932; and the original cast album of Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story,” released in 1957. The academy, which gives out the Grammy Awards, has inducted pre-Grammy (pre-1958) musical pieces into its Hall of Fame since 1974.
