Southern California Water Co., which serves most of the 2,700 residents of Ojai, received permission Thursday from the California Public Utilities Commission to raise water rates by 31% on Jan. 1.
The commission also approved another 7% increase in 1992, followed by a 4% increase in 1993.
The district said the residential customer who uses 2,210 cubic feet of water a month will pay $6.38 more, with the bill going up from $28.72 to $35.10.
The increase is expected to generate $479,200 for the water company over the next three years.
