Fire investigators continued searching Tuesday for military explosives, a large cache of which was found near Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach late Monday, authorities said.
The search failed to turn up any new items Tuesday afternoon, and “the matter has been turned over to the military,” said a spokesman for the San Diego Fire Department.
The cache was described as “a variety of military ordnances,” which were reported to the fire department’s bomb unit shortly after 5 p.m. Monday.
The area was secured and the beach cleared, but operations have now returned to normal, the spokesman said.
