Divers have repaired a pipeline that had been leaking treated sewage wastewater off the coast of Carlsbad, the Encina Water Pollution Control Facility announced Wednesday.
The leak, caused by a faulty gasket seal a mile offshore and at a depth of 95 feet, was discovered last November during a routine inspection of the pipeline.
Earlier estimates put the amount of leaking waste water at 150,000 to 300,000 gallons a day, but that figure has been revised to about 50,000 gallons a day.
Facility operators emphasize the leak didn’t involve raw sewage and say their sampling indicates the leak wasn’t causing ocean contamination.
