Pier Theme: Ocean Pacific Sunwear Ltd. of Tustin has one of the larger exhibits at the show and one of the best gimmicks: It re-created an ersatz version of the soon-to-be-destroyed Huntington Beach Pier, complete with the cornerstone.
OP is also turning to a more European-influenced look. Some of the more prominent items in its line are sweat shirts with the Ocean Pacific name and an embroidered coat of arms. A plain gray sweat shirt with the company name in gold letters is also a hit. The embroidery plays well to customers’ desire for a sense of quality, said Luci Hamilton, a company spokeswoman.
The items also go heavy on nostalgia. Dennis Del Rey, vice president of merchandising, was getting plenty of inquiries about the jacket he was wearing. It was the OP version of the classic high-school letterman’s jacket.
