ROUNDUP : Oronoz Helps Whittier Christian Win

Ruben Oronoz scored 25 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as Whittier Christian High School defeated Brethren Christian, 58-52, in an Olympic League boys’ basketball game Saturday at Brethren Christian.
The teams are tied for second place with 9-3 league records, behind Valley Christian.
In another Olympic League boys’ basketball game:
Orange Lutheran 62, Capistrano Valley Christian 55--Jeff Courvoisier and Brian Bedord each scored 14 points to pace host Orange Lutheran (11-11, 8-4). Nathan Owen led Capistrano Valley Christian with 13.
In a nonleague boys’ basketball:
Mater Dei 80, Brea-Olinda 42--Orange County’s top-ranked team had little trouble with host Brea-Olinda in a game at UC Irvine’s Bren Center. Four players scored in double figures for Mater Dei (20-4), led by J.J. Ballesteros with 13. Ten of the 12 Monarchs who played scored.
In Arrowhead League boys’ basketball:
Calvary Chapel 65, Laverne Lutheran 63 (3 OT)--Brian Arrowood hit an 18-foot shot with 12 seconds remaining in the third overtime for visiting Calvary Chapel (7-11, 4-6).
In Sunset League girls’ basketball:
Huntington Beach 67, Westminster 29--Tuesda Wistrick scored 24 points and Jennifer Mills scored 14 points for host Huntington Beach (19-7, 7-3).
Fountain Valley 42, Santa Ana 32--Michelle Kravik scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for host Fountain Valley (16-8, 8-2).
Marina 58, Edison 53--Gillian Bean scored 16 points and teammate Colleen Hatch added 14 and grabbed nine rebounds to lead visiting Marina (19-4, 10-0).
In Seaview League girls’ basketball:
Woodbridge 62, Newport Harbor 57--Visiting Woodbridge jumped out to a 14-2 lead, then held off several Newport Harbor rallies. Michaela Ross of Newport Harbor (10-11, 3-5) scored 23 points.
In South Coast League girls’ basketball:
San Clemente 48, Dana Hills 44--Dana Netherby scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for host San Clemente (14-7, 5-3). Keri Reiger scored 16 points for Dana Hills (13-9, 3-5).
