In nonconference men’s tennis:
Southern California College 5, Cal Tech 4--It came down to the final match, the third doubles, and that went to a tiebreaker in the third set. Mike Prince and Scott Haus finally won, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), for visiting SCC (1-0). Greg Nations won, 6-1, 6-0, in singles and teamed with Dan McArther to win a doubles match, 6-1, 6-1.
In Big West Conference men’s swimming:
Nevada Las Vegas 148, UC Irvine 86--Matt Curry (100 freestyle in 47.03 seconds) was Irvine’s only individual swimming winner at UNLV. Irvine’s Greg Dovidio won the one- and three-meter dives.
In Big West Conference women’s swimming:
Nevada Las Vegas 151, UC Irvine 74--Lisa Williams won the 1,000-yard and the 500 freestyles for visiting UC Irvine.
