2 Sentenced for Role in Alcohol Poisoning Death

Two brothers were each sentenced to one year in Los Angeles County Jail after pleading no contest to involuntary manslaughter in the alcohol poisoning death of a 14-year-old boy.
In addition, David Campbell, 29, and his brother, Patrick, 23, were sentenced to four years of probation and 500 hours of community service in the death of Leland Scovis, a prosecutor said.
Scovis died last April, one day after accepting the brothers’ challenge to finish a partially full bottle of whiskey during a camping trip at Leo Carrillo State Beach, north of Malibu.
The brothers could have been sentenced to up to two years in state prison. Superior Court Judge Robert Thomas decided on a lighter term so the men could spend more time counseling children and teen-agers about the dangers of alcohol.
