LIVORNO, Italy — An Italian ferry, the Moby Prince, slammed into a tanker in heavy fog outside the Mediterranean port of Livorno today and authorities said more than 130 people were feared dead.
The harbormaster’s office said the sea was covered by a huge sheet of flame after the collision and only one ferry survivor was rescued. The ferry did not even have time to send a distress signal.
Officials said there was little hope of finding more ferry survivors but all on board the oil tanker, the Agip Abruzzo, were saved.
