Turner Broadcasting System Inc.: The media and entertainment company said first-quarter profit fell 12% to $3.8 million, primarily because of increased interest expenses. Revenue rose 12% to $325.2 million. The Atlanta-based firm said increased viewing of CNN during the Persian Gulf War translated into an $11.5-million increase in advertising during the quarter, boosting revenue in its news segment by 21%.
