Orange Coast and Saddleback Golfers Finish in Top Four to Qualify for State Tournament

SANTA ANA — Orange Coast and Saddleback earned trips to the State tournament by finishing in the top four of the Southern California Regional community college championships Monday at Santa Ana County Club.
College of the Desert won the team title with a score of 775 for 36 holes. Long Beach (779) was second, Orange Coast (781) third and Saddleback (785) fourth in the 11-team field.
The 36-hole State tournament will be played next Monday on the Visalia County Club and the King’s River County Club in Visalia.
Jason Brokken of College of the Desert won the individual title Monday with a one-over 145. Steve Shriver of Long Beach was second (148), and Mike O’Leary of Palomar third (150). OCC’s Ken Calvert and Saddleback’s Tracey Fettrow were in a group of four tied for fourth at 152.
Scott McLeod (154), Brian Saltus (158), Chris Lowry (159) and Chris Keyte (160) also scored for Orange Coast.
Saltus won the the Orange Empire Conference individual title and OCC won the conference team title May 6 at Singing Hills in San Diego.
Sheldon Ryan (156), Chad Pearson (157), John Dauphin (159) and Pomp Braswell (159) scored for Saddleback.
