Peanuts Auction: Animation artwork from the “Peanuts” TV specials will be auctioned at Sotheby’s in New York on June 18, with pre-sale price estimates ranging from $600 to $6,000. A cel and background set-up from “A Charlie Brown Christmas” depicting Charlie Brown, Linus and Snoopy on a frozen pond is expected to bring between $4,000 and $6,000. Cels from “Peanuts” cartoons occasionally turn up at sales of animation art, but this is the first major sale conducted under the auspices of United Media Syndicate. Also on the block are cels from recent Warner Bros. cartoons, including “Box Office Bunny,” with estimated values of $2,000 to $3,000, and a number of cels and drawings from Walt Disney animated features and shorts.
