California IN BRIEF : SACRAMENTO : Gunman in Siege Appears in Court

The lone surviving gunman in an electronics store shootout that killed six people appeared in court where he faces 54 felony charges, including murder, that could lead to the gas chamber. It was the first time that Loi Khac Nguyen, 21, had been seen in public since he and three other Vietnamese immigrant gang members took 41 hostages at The Good Guys store in south Sacramento on April 4. The gunmen, wielding 9-millimeter weapons they had bought legally, killed three hostages before sheriff’s deputies stormed the store in a hail of bullets, ending an 8 1/2-hour siege. Three gunman were killed and 11 people, including Nguyen, were wounded.
