Immigrants Should Learn the Language

When my middle-aged parents and I immigrated to the United States from central Europe in 1940, we certainly didn’t expect the library to have many books in our native language. And therefore, we set out immediately to become proficient in English, so that we could read all the wonderful literature available free in the city libraries. Anyone fortunate enough to be taken in by the United States should feel it their duty to speak and read the language of their adopted country as soon as possible. For the Glendale Library to set up a special Armenian Center is counterproductive for speedy assimilation.
